Different Types Of Hard Chrome Plating

Hard chrome plating is mostly performed on metal furniture and other types of metal equipment. When a thin mirror like layer is plated on the outer or inner surface of the metal, it is called hard plating. There are many advantages associated with hard chrome plating. Here, we will see the two types of chromium plating mostly performed in the industrial applications.

Industrial Plating:

In industrial hard plating, there are two categories: Hexavalent chromium baths and Trivalent Chromium baths. In former types of plating, the main ingredient is chromium sulfate. Trivalent chromium baths are not popular as there are some limitations related to color, fragility and width.

Decorative Plating:

When hard chrome plate is performed for decorative purposes, mostly chromium and nickel combination is used as it offers best corrosion resistance. A mirror finish touch of chrome on the surface will look attractive and eye catching.

  2. Thanks for explaining that hard chrome plating can be either decorative or industrial. I didn't know that decorative plating is made from chromium and nickel, while industrial plating contains different chemicals. I want to get some parts of my car chrome plated. I wonder which process is used for automobiles. http://raheller.com/our-services/hard-chrome-plating
